I believe in the dual dog, and I want to continue the history of the Brittany being the #1 dual dog.  I encourage people to try out all the different avenues available to the Brittany, trials, tests, hunting, showing, obedience, and agility; anything a versatile dog can do!  As we all know, a bored Brittany is a mischievous Brittany.

In 1991, I decided that I needed a hunting dog, after growing up in rural Manitoba, I felt the need to get back to hunting and wanted a companion. I wanted a pointing dog, so the dog could say "hey the bird is here", then and I would have a chance to shoot.  Through a family friend who had a Brittany, I was introduced to Don MacDonald, who was having his first litter of pups.  Having a young family at the time, it was important that I not only get a dog that would be a great hunting companion but also one that my family could enjoy in the home. After researching the breed, I decided the Brittany would be the perfect fit! Smoking Joe Mac was the first addition to the family.

What I was not quite prepared for was the signifcance this little dog would have on my life. I had no clue that the my pick of the litter was from the National Champion, Aux-Arc's Mark, and the female, MicMac Apache Jessie, was a huge running, bird finding dog.  With credentials like this, it took little time to be convinced into trying field trials, adding the love of hunting with a competitive edge.

Field trialing turned into needing another dog, MacBrits Smoking Jake to also compete with.  Then becoming an active member in the field trial clubs, Calgary Pointing Dog Club and The Brittany Spaniel Club of Canada. Then came the field dog tests, shoot to retrieves, dog shows, and more dogs, Kinwashkly Smoking Hank, and MacBrits Smoking Lil Joe.  My life took on a whole new meaning. There is a member in our club who has a embroidered pillow, and on it says "It all started with an $250.00 dog"  Need I say any more!
